Peter was here in NYC to play a couple shows at the Bowery Electric and the new Coney Island Baby on Avenue A, and i was fortunate to run into him twice. We met first at a bar on Houston that was having an open mic, and again at a friend's live talk show "Talk Tomato," an event we were both performing at. He showed his brilliant video for his song "Ligne 2," and played this song, which i had him play again, outside the Film Noir Theatre in Greenpoint after the show. I didn't have my audio gear, but Venus was sitting next to a crescent moon in the sky and i gave it a try anyway.
He's from Liverpool, but lives in Paris where he runs a monthly showcase and plays stunning Jacques Brel covers, in addition to his own music which is a perfect blend of UK and France, most notably in Ligne 2, a bilingual song about the Paris metro. I'm Into Gin reminds me more of my time in Ireland than anything else, but he says he's never pent much time there. Doesn't matter, it's a pretty song wherever you are. If you dig it, check out his page, find him in Paris, or watch this video over and over. facebook.com/peterdeavesmusic/
